The CJAC completed its first fiscal year on June 30, 2019. Much changed in the Oklahoma County justice system from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019 with numerous areas of progress: For more than a decade, multiple task forces and committees recommended the creation of a Trust Authority to oversee the jail. Through numerous meetings, discussions and revisions of the Trust Indenture document, the CJAC recommended that the Board of County Commissioners approve the Trust and create the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority. Recognizing the importance of public engagement to help raise awareness about problems at the jail, the Sheriff and Sheriff’s Office staff graciously allow public tours to regularly take place throughout the year. In the last fiscal year, more than 750 visitors toured the jail to see the conditions up close and personal. See the full report below.
