Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Advisory Council Appoints Melissa Walton as Executive Director

The Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Advisory Council (CJAC) has appointed Melissa Walton as its new executive director, tasked with reducing incarceration and contributing to public safety by streamlining the county justice system. Walton brings over 15 years of experience in criminal justice reform, public policy, and community engagement.

Walton’s criminal justice background includes several years at ReMerge, a nonprofit diversion program for mothers with an emphasis in overcoming substance abuse, where she served as director of community engagement. Most recently Walton served as strategic director of the Oklahoma County Treatment Courts, providing help to justice-involved veterans and those overcoming mental health or substance abuse issues.

She succeeds Timothy Tardibono, who led CJAC from its inception in 2018 until his recent appointment as executive director of the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs.

As executive director, Walton will oversee CJAC's strategic initiatives, including efforts to reduce incarceration rates, enhance data-driven decision-making, and foster community partnerships. She will play a pivotal role in guiding the development of the new Oklahoma County Detention Center and implementing reforms included in the CJAC strategic plan.
